Modern Japanese Ceramics Pottery Contemporary

By Appointment is best. You might get lucky just popping by, but a great deal of the month I am out visiting artists or scouring up new items, so days in the gallery are limited.
In accordance with the request of local authorities our gallery in Kyoto will be closed from April 1st until further notice.

A mysterious mottle of color drifts like smoke around the surface of this Bizen Tsubo shaded with clouds of natural pale green ash by Hibata Koken enclosed in the original signed wooden box. It is roughly 14 inches (35.5 cm) diameter, 13 inches (33 cm) tall and in fine condition. It is a hefty piece weighing in at about 12 kilograms including the box. Koken (b. 1921) has been displayed on a National level at the Nihon Dento Kogei Ten (Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition), Nihon Togei Ten (Japan National Ceramics Exhibition), as well as any number of local and private exhibitions. His work has also been purchased by the Imperial Household Agency.
