A stunning Tea bowl by veteran Kyoto potter Suide Masaru enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Hakuto-ren Chawan. It is 11 cm (4-1/4 inches) diameter, 8.5 cm (3-1/2 inches) tall and in excellent condition.
Suide Masaharu was born in Kyoto in 1947 and learned the plastic arts under the tutelage of his uncle Kato Eiho in before completing studies at the Kyoto Municipal Ceramics Research Facility. He opened his own private kiln in 1977 specializing in Kiyomize ware and has a long history with the pottery of Kyoto as well as collaborating with such Luminaries as head of Todaiji Temple Shimizu Kosho.
