Crackled Celadon glaze covers the rich red clay of this Beishoku Chawan by Furukawa Toshio enclosed in the original signed wooden box dating c. 1989. It is an excellent example of this medium. The bowl is 5-1/4 inches (13 cm)diameter, 3 inches (8 cm) tall and in excellent condition.
Born in Kyoto in 1949, he graduated Osaka University of Art design department before entering the Kyoto Municipal Ceramics Research Facility. He first exhibited at the Kyoten in 1972, establishing himself as an independent artist in 1975. He has since focused on Seiji and Beishoku Seiji Celadons, with the Nihon Dento Kogeiten National Traditional Crafts Exhibition as his main venue
