A plate textured and colored like a fragment of old rolled tatami mat cover by Kato Kozan enclosed in the original signed wooden box. Very playful, it is 24 x 33 cm (10 x 13 inches) and in fine condition. Known equally in the ceramic world as in the world of sculpture and design, Kozan has been awarded many times Born in Seto in 1948, he opened his first kiln in 1970 specializing in multi-colored glazes. In 72 he moved the kiln, and in 73 received the Osaka Good Design prize. Inspired for bigger and better, he opened a grand kiln the following year, and was once again awarded with the Kinki Design prize. He once again moved his kin in 1977, nd in 78 took up following in his fathers footsteps as a traditional potter while cultivating his image as a sculptor as well. In 1994 he changed his name to Kozan.
