By Appointment is best. You might get lucky just popping by, but a great deal of the month I am out visiting artists or scouring up new items, so days in the gallery are limited.
In accordance with the request of local authorities our gallery in Kyoto will be closed from April 1st until further notice.

This thickly potted wheel thrown plate is everything one would hope for in Bizen, rich raw clay, weight, and the scrawling marks of Hidasuki straw burnt into the dark surface. It is by important 20th century artist Fujiwara Ken, and comes enclosed in the original signed wooden box. The dish is 26 cm (10-1/2 inches) diameter and in excellent condition. The box is darkened with age.
One of the 20th centuries true genius potters, Ken (1924-1977) was born in Okayama, and studied under Living National Treasures Fujiwara Kei and Kaneshige Toyo as well as Kitaoji Rosanjin. He was designated an important Cultural Property of Okayama prefecture for his life’s work in Bizen, and was on his way to becoming Living National Treasure when his life abruptly ended at the age of 53.
