Gold nuggets gleam on the deep lavender and black surface of this natural-formation by Inayoshi Osamu enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Kurinuki Kinsai Kaki. Kinsai is literally gold color, and here the artist has embedded gold into the surface, allowing it to expand and bubble out in the heat of the firing process. A slightly more austere work completing this tea set by Kanzaki Shiho enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Shigaraki Chawan and named inside the lid Amidha-Do (Hall of Amitabha). Here the artist has refrained from over-decoration, allowing the natural color and texture of the terracotta clay to dominate. It is 5-1/4 inches (13.3 cm) diameter, 3-1/2 inches (9 cm) tall and in excellent condition, dating circa 1990.

The second of three pieces by Kanzaki Shiho we are offering. This is enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Iga Mizusashi dating circa 1990. Again, this artist has outdone himself. Known for radical kiln effects, this does not disappoint, with a plethora of textures and colors to impress both the eye and the sense of touch. It is 7-/2 inches (19 cm) diameter, 6-1/2 inches (16.5 cm) tall and in excellent condition.

A spectacular ash encrusted work by the legendary Kanzaki Shiho enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Iga Hanaire dating circa 1990. A spectacular square vase of undulating misty mountain forms in colored clay by important ceramic artist Miyashita Zenji enclosed in the original signed wooden box. Comb teeth have been dragged through the glaze of this stately bowl by one of the most influential artists of the 20th century, Kanjiro Kawai. A fine example of this artists work circa 1938 enclosed in a period wooden box. Two similar works are held in the Katsukawa collection and published in the biblical tome by the Kyoto National Museum of Modern Art. This is 11 cm diameter, 8.5 cm tall and in excellent condition.

An iconic square bottle by one of the most important Japanese artists, Kawai Kanjiro, enclosed in the original signed wooden box. The fawn spotted white glaze is decorated with Gosu floral patterns in blue and red with a rich iron red at the mouth, the raw clay revealed at the base. A beautiful open form of pale clay dashed with scarlet Hidasuki lines by Koyama Suehiro enclosed in the original signed wooden box. It is quite large at 37 cm (14-1/2 inches) tall and is in excellent condition. Hidasuki is a distinctly Bizen technique wherein straw is placed on the piece before firing, causing a chemical reaction with the composition of the clay, heat and straw, which leaves these dark lines after the chaff has burned away.
