Contemporary Slab by JCS Gold Award Winner Koie Ryoji
A radical contemporary footed slab by Koie Ryoji enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Ashitsuki Nobe-zara. It is covered in Oribe green and red with a large blackened moon-like exclamation point in the fringe, pale white bleeding in about the edges. The slab is 51 x 21 x 6 cm (20 x 8-1/2 x 2-1/2 inches) and is in perfect condition. Born in Tokoname, 1938, Ryoji graduated the Tokoname industrial school and moved on to work at the City Ceramic Research Facility. In 1966 he established his own studio. Largely displayed and prized, he was most recently awarded the Japan Ceramic Society Gold Award in 2009, the most prestigious of pottery prizes in Japan.
