| An Aka-ji Kinsai vase by Suzuki Kiyoshi enclosed in the original signed wooden box dating circa 1965. The Koma-form vase (in the shape of a spinning top) is decorated largely I a swatch of red, with gold florals and alternating blue and red stripes at the top and bottom. Signed on the base, the vase is roughly 9 inches (23 cm) tall, 8-1/2 inches (21 cm) diameter and in perfect condition. Born into a long line of Kyoto potters, Kiyoshi (1903-1967) studied under Tomimoto Kenkichi and was a founding member of the Shindan Bijutsu Kogei Kai Craft Society. He was well known for sculptural works with lifelong friend Yamamoto Kakuji. He was first awarded in 1939 at the Kokuga-Kai, and first exhibited at the Bunten in 1941 where he was awarded the Mombu-Daijin Governors prize. His sons are also potters, Suzuki Kenji and Suzuki Takuji. | |||||||||
