Metalic colors linger in wrinkled draperies on this exceptional bowl by Sasaki Zen enclosed in the original signed wooden box dating circa 1990. It is 7-1/4 inches (18.5 D) 3-1/2 (9) tall and in excellent condition.
Sasaki Zen was born in Okayama, home of Bizen-ware, in 1949, but studied under the master of Tenmoku Kimura Morikazu from 1971-1979. At the same time he attended the Kyoto Prefectural Ceramics Research facility, graduating in 1973. In 1979 he moved to Fukui prefecture, opening his own kiln. The following year he was accepted into the Nihon Dento Kogeiten National Traditional Crafts Exhibition, and has exhibited there many times along with numerous one man exhibitions in many of Japans top venues..
