Stripes of Oribe green emanate from the center of this huge Bowl by Ono Shigeyasu enclosed in the original signed wooden box. Like an open Peacock tail, the raked iron-glazed surface has been combed and coated with the descending bands, creating a tactile world alternating between the roughened clay and smooth glass. Outside the dark green covers all but the foot. A truly exquisite form, entirely modern in its interpretation of tradition. The vessel is 22 inches (56 cm) diameter, 4 inches (1 ...click for details

A dark, charred Vase dating from 1972 by Shimizu Yasutaka enclosed in the original signed wooden box. White rivulets seem to weep out from the igneous surface, scattering pell-mell over the rugged texture. Opposite the raw clay is barely visible, baked and spattered with natural ash glaze. The vase is 9 inches (23 cm) tall, 6-1/2 inches (16.5 cm) diameter and in fine condition, a rare early work by this important contemporary artist. Yasutaka was born into the pottery household of future Li ...click for details
