A jagged metallic shard has embedded into the lavender shaded side of this deep Shiro-Hagi Chawan by Miwa Kazuhiko enclosed in the original signed wooden box. Here we are given a view of another side of the work of this important modern artist, a traditional Irabo bowl based on Korean design by Miyashita Zenji enclosed in the original signed wooden box. The Wan-gata form is covered in pale mustard tones over rust red. Scoring from the artists fingers drawing up the clay is left exposed, like the shadow of the potter himself bent over the wheel, the rust accentuating the affect under the ochre glaze. The bowl is 5-1/2 inches (14 cm) diameter, 2-3/4 ...click for details
